Fine diamond jewellery is crafted to endure for generations. With routine daily wear, lotions, dust, and natural skin oils can form a microscopic film over the facet pavilions, temporarily dimming their radiant light return. Here is how master jewellers recommend caring for your pieces at home.
The Gentle Warm Water & Dish Soap Method
Prepare a small bowl with lukewarm water and a few drops of mild, fragrance-free liquid dish soap. Submerge your jewellery for 15–20 minutes to soften residual build-up. Use a baby toothbrush with ultra-soft bristles to gently brush around the prongs, basket, and back of the stone.
What to Avoid at All Costs
- Harsh Chemicals: Never expose gold or diamond pieces to bleach, chlorine pools, or acetone.
- Abrasive Powders: Baking soda or toothpaste can scratch high-polish 18KT gold and platinum surfaces.
- Heavy Ultrasonic Cleaners at Home: While effective, non-professional ultrasonic cleaners can loosen delicate micro-pave settings if used excessively.
